Man Charged with Attempted Murder for SW Kansas Knife Fight with Mehammed, Victim in Critical Condition

A man has made his initial court appearance in connection with a violent knife altercation that left a victim in critical condition in Finney County.

Jemie Mehammed, a 44-year-old resident of Garden City, has been formally charged with attempted first-degree murder by the Finney County Attorney's office.

According to a press release, police were called to the scene of a brawl in the 300 block of College Drive in Garden City on July 1. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 36-year-old man who had suffered stab wounds and severe beatings. Following an investigation, Jemie Mehammed, aged 44, was identified as the alleged assailant and was subsequently apprehended by the police.

The injured victim was promptly transported by emergency medical services to St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. Due to the seriousness of his injuries, he was later airlifted to Colorado for further medical treatment.

Mehammed is currently being held at the Finney County Jail on a bond set at $200,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 28, as confirmed by the district attorney's office.
